Signed, the Dracopyr

AN EXCERPT FROM SIGNED THE DRACOPYR.

I sat in English, my last lesson of the week. Everyone in the class had been given a sheet of A4 paper. On each sheet was a different legend or myth.

I had received the Legend of the Dracopyrs. My task was simple: to study the piece completely and in full and to write at least a page of notes - all due on Monday. I knew the legend of the Dracopyrs anyway, as it was tied to my family - the Riordan family. That's who I am, an alleged descendant of Witch Contour, a child of the Riordan clan. My father had added a distinct Russian aspect into my entire genetic makeup, and I looked as Russian as I sounded when I spoke. I had inherited a lot of features from my father, but the one that that kept with the Riordan women was our caramel coloured eyes. For all of us, they darken when we are upset or angry - in various ways.

The basics of the legend were that the love of Witch Contour's life, Lord Medici Vindaro de Venizia, had broken her heart. In retaliation - if slightly overdramatic - Witch Contour cursed him with immortality and a lust for blood. But there was more to the curse than that - he had wings. Honest to Goddess wings. Dragon wings, to be precise. The curse of the Dracopyr had been set. Anything that Medici would bite, whether it be human or animal, would be inflicted with the same curse - until he would find his cure. It is said that he still wanders the world today, hunting for his cure. The other Dracopyrs, cursed by Medici's search, would also be looking for their cures. They, individually, could cure themselves - but when Medici finds his cure, the world will be freed of Dracopyrs...

She's born into a family where there's magic, blood feuds... and the mysterious dracopyrs who live within her very town. The very thing she needs to protect herself against... the very thing she fell in love with. An ancient curse... an ancient cure. The power of the Riordans in the hands of a teenage girl with more power in her veins than the first Riordan. Her best friend, psychic. Her worst enemy, powerful. Herself, a Goddess. Welcome to the world of darkness... Welcome to the Rose.
